Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

intense pulsed light

An intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy device uses special lamps to produce short bursts of high intensity, precisely focused light. It is similar to laser technology, but employs multiple wavelengths of light rather than just one. In dermatology, IPL therapy is used to help Atlanta women and men treat a variety of skin conditions by destroying targeted cells without damaging surrounding tissues. Broadband light (BBL) therapy, much like IPL, uses a range of light wavelengths for focused skin treatment.

What Does IPL/BBL Treat?

Peachtree Dermatology Associates puts both Intense Pulsed Light and BBL phototherapies to work to help patients address pigmented lesions such as age spots, freckles, and discoloration from sun damage, typically on lighter skin types. These treatments are ideal for use on those areas most frequently exposed to the sun such as the face, neck, and backs of hands. IPL and BBL therapies are also good solutions for resolving acne, rosacea, vascular and pigmented birthmarks, and broken capillaries.

What Are IPL/BBL Treatments Like?

This brief, non-invasive procedure is conducted at our offices. Usually 2 to 3 treatments are needed for best results. Most patients feel a little tingling that quickly subsides. Those with very sensitive skin may experience mild discomfort during the procedure, but we take extra precautions to ensure your comfort. We apply a cooling gel to the skin, and a cool air machine provides additional relief.

This skin rejuvenation treatment affects the skin’s lower layers (dermis) without impacting the top-most layer (epidermis), so there is minimal downtime following a treatment.

Post-Treatment Precautions

We caution all of our patients to protect their skin from sun damage; it is especially important after an IPL or BBL treatment. If you must be outside, take the following precautions:

  • Avoid direct sun during mid-day hours
  • Wear long sleeves, a hat with a wide brim, and sunglasses
  • Apply sunscreen to your face and other exposed areas every day

It’s also important to stay out of tanning beds.

IPL/BBL therapy – another option the team of professional dermatologists at Peachtree Dermatology provides to keep patients looking terrific!

Finally Felt Heard

I am astonished and happy to report that my visit/visits to this practitioners office has been positive and encouraging She listened, so offered medical evidence and offered a plan of attack to address my problems. Not like the young Dr, I had the displeasure of seeing months before Mrs. Wright. Dr.'s like her are few and far between. I enjoy and have enjoyed the service and the atmosphere there.

Very Satisfied

My first encounter with Dr. Law was very satisfactory: I consulted her for an annual checkup since my previous dermatologist is now too far from my current location. Dr. Law was very pleasant and thorough; an additiodnal plus was a very short waiting time.
