Here’s what you need to know about Chemical Peels
Many Peachtree Dermatology patients are looking for a way to refine the texture of their skin, improve areas of discoloration, and diminish fine lines. We offer a variety of carefully controlled chemical peel options in Atlanta to deliver those results. We utilize different solutions to exfoliate, sloughing off dead cells and allowing fresh, renewed skin to emerge, with treatment tailored to your individual needs.
Gentle Chemical Peels
Milder peels are appropriate for all skin types from very fair to dark. Usually a series of 3 to 6 mild peels is recommended to achieve desired results. This is actually a rather pampering facial. You’ll feel a little tingling as the chemical agents are applied, which passes quickly. We monitor your progress, remove the chemicals at just the right time, and apply soothing cream and sunscreen. There is no significant downtime – your face may be just a bit dry and flaky a few days after the peel, as the old skin falls away.
Aggressive Chemical Peels
More aggressive peels are usually recommended only for lighter complexions. To ensure that you have a comfortable experience, we provide a fan and apply cool compresses during treatment, watching your progress attentively, and applying sunscreen and calming cream afterward. You won’t feel any discomfort by the time your treatment is completed. But with this option, you will experience more redness, and the skin will peel for a longer period of time, sometimes coming off in sheets similar to a sunburn. After a few days of healing, the skin looks refreshed and rejuvenated; smoother, with fine lines less noticeable. Pre-cancerous spots (actinic keratosis) can be successfully removed by an aggressive peel with special medicines added.
We customize a schedule to address your concerns. Very sensitive skin may react unevenly to a peel, so in that case we’ll start gently. It may take 3 to 6 sessions to rectify acne and discoloration, with a follow-up peel every few months. Aggressive peels are usually done only once every few years, with at-home treatments to maintain results.
You don’t have to go to a dermatologist for a chemical peel – many salons and spas offer them. However, at Peachtree Dermatology, you are assured of experienced advice on treatment options. We know that your face is unique, and one size does not fit all in dermatology. If a chemical peel is not the best solution for your concerns, we may recommend a laser peel or microdermabrasion.
You only get one face, trust it to Peachtree Dermatology.
