Shenara Sexton, MD, FAAD

Dr. Shenara Sexton is a board-certified dermatologist with nearly two decades of experience providing comprehensive, evidence-based dermatologic care. She joins Peachtree Dermatology with a strong background in medical dermatology, academic research, and clinical leadership, offering patients thoughtful, individualized treatment rooted in the latest advances in skin health.

Dr. Sexton earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Georgia before completing her medical degree at Emory University School of Medicine. She continued her training at Emory University Hospital, where she completed an internship and residency in internal medicine, followed by a prestigious National Institutes of Health (NIH) fellowship within Emory University’s Department of Dermatology. She then completed her dermatology residency at Emory University, where she also contributed to clinical research through the Swerlick Research Lab.

Throughout her career, Dr. Sexton has practiced in a variety of clinical settings across Georgia, including private practice, large healthcare systems, and academic environments. Most recently, she has served as a National Medical Director with Humana, bringing a broad perspective on quality care, clinical outcomes, and patient-centered decision-making. Her prior clinical roles include Forefront Dermatology, Avail Dermatology, Kaiser Permanente, and her own private practice, Sexton Dermatology.

Dr. Sexton is widely recognized for her clinical excellence and leadership. She has been named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor for four consecutive years (2021–2024) and was also honored as a Castle Connolly Top Black Doctor in 2023 and 2024. She is an active member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, American Medical Association, and National Medical Association.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Sexton has authored peer-reviewed publications and presented her research at regional and national dermatology meetings. She is deeply engaged in civic and cultural leadership, serving on advisory and nonprofit boards and participating in Leadership Georgia.

Dr. Sexton is passionate about delivering compassionate, high-quality dermatologic care and building long-term relationships with her patients. She is dedicated to helping individuals achieve healthy skin while feeling informed, respected, and confident in their care.
